What is CPU Speed

The CPU of a computer is the part of it which performs all of its logical and arithmetic calculations. All calculations are done by first converting the user's input into binary, and then the calculations are performed on the binary. The binary system consists of only two different digits – 0 and 1. They are referred to as the logical zero and logical one. For every calculation the computer alternates between these two numbers. A single change from 0 to 1 or vice-versa is known as a clock cycle. The speed of a CPU is measured in clock rate. In short, the clock rate is the frequency of the clock in a circuit. It is measured in Hz, MHz (Million cycles per second) and GHz. The clock rate can also be defined as the speed at which the microprocessor executes instructions. This rate is used to compare the speeds of different computers.

The clock rate of a CPU depends on various factors such as system architecture, clock rate of RAM and file system, so two computers with the same clock rates may not perform the same. The first commercial PC the Altair 8800 which used the Intel 8080 chip had a speed of 2MHz while the original IBM had a clock rate of 4.77 MHz.

The Intel Pentium (2002) chip ran at 300MHz while the more recent Pentium IV runs at 3 GHz (3 billion cycles per second).
To find your CPU's speed (Windows):

1. Right click on “My Computer” and click on “Properties”.

2. Under the “System” section, look for Processor - The processor’s name as well as speed (in GHz) will be mentioned.

IP Address

IP stands for Internet Protocol, therefore an IP address is a unique number used by network equipment in order to communicate and interfere between them using the IP standard.

In a network, each node in the network must have its own unique address in order to distinguish itself from the others. If you wish, the IP address can be associated to some other unique identifier in real life - for example the street name or a person's phone number. In the same way that a phone number points to a person, an IP address points to a specific node inside a network.

IP addresses are created by IANA (the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) and they're all under its management. IANA is the top level management institution. It usually allocates super-blocks to Regional Internet Registries, who in turn allocate smaller blocks to ISP's and other enterprises. The ISP's distribute individual IP addresses or subnets to their clients.

Currently, the Internet Protocol has two versions. IPv4 and IPv6. The sole term of "IP address" refers to the IPv4 one.

Internet Protocol version 4 is the fourth iteration of the Internet Protocol IP and it is the first version of the protocol to be widely deployed. IPv4 is the dominant network layer protocol on the Internet and apart from IPv6 it is the only protocol used on the Internet. On the other hand, (IPv6) is a network layer protocol for packet-switched internetworks. It is designated as the successor of IPv4, the current version of the Internet Protocol, for general use on the Internet.

The main advantage of IPv6 is that is increases the number of available IP addresses and that can be revealed by a simple math. IPv4 supports 2^32 addresses - an estimated number of 4.3 billion. That's far from enough in order for everyone to have their own IP address. On the other hand, IPv6 brings up 2^128 addresses - totaling 340 billion billion billion billions addresses. If this would be used all over the Internet, NAT will not be required anymore.

As written above, IPv4 has a 4.3 billion addresses limit and that's due its 32 bit structure. Those are not all available for public use. About 18 millions of them are for special purposes (private networks, local connections and such), not visible from the Internet cloud. Another million is translated in multi cast addresses and the number of available IP addresses drops even more.

The main thing that slows this IP address shortage is NAT (Network Address Translation), a feature that helps computers in a local network connect to the Internet Cloud and vice-versa. This is the main limitation that helped stimulating the migration towards IPv6. IPv6 is now in the early stages of deployment and is currently the only protocol that could successfully replace IPv4. And that's only a matter of time from now.

Besides NAT, there are a few other practices that help minimizing the IP address exhaustion:
* Private networks
* Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)
* Named based virtual hosting
* Network renumbering

It's being predicted that the unallocated IANA IP address pool will be terminated somewhere in the first half of 2010.

Data Backup: Protection Against Data Loss

Securing data in today’s information technology driven world is a must. Whether it is a network manager of a small or large corporation or a simple home user, it proves beneficial to all computer users to have a backup of their data so that it can be used to restore original data in the event of a data loss.
While running a business, if data has not been backed up, then the issues are potentially very serious. A system crash could stop the business trading for hours, days or even weeks, and that could even mean breaking data protection laws by not keeping data safe and secure.

Did you know?
• 34% of companies fail to test their backups, and of those that do, 77% have found back-up failures (Source: Home Office Computing Magazine)

• 93% of companies that lost their data centre for 10 days or more due to a disaster filed for bankruptcy within one year of the disaster. (Source: National Archives & Records Administration)

Finding the right backup solution could be confusing. It depends on what to backup, how to backup & what type of computer or network is being used. It might sometimes seem difficult to choose the right backup solution. Not because they are difficult to find, but because there are too many of them. Data Backup consultants these days start by asking what you want to take a backup of. Is it a hard disk, a server on a LAN or a partition of a hard disk? It could also be a database, specific files or directories/ folders.

The ways in which data has been stored has changed over time, from punch strips, removable disk to data tapes. Data in the old days was stored on large tapes. When the program needed to process data, the information was loaded from the tapes in real time. Things have changed with the adoption of the Internet, LAN, WAN and ever more powerful storage medium. Today it is becoming more and more popular to make a snapshot of disk drives and write that information on to a DVD with the computer's DVD player.

It’s worth noting that ALL disk drives fail, regardless of brand or type. A professional company offering data backup and recovery services can show how to create a back up. If the client does not have any backup devices, the data backup company can supply and fit cost effective and tailor made backing up solutions for the home or business to suit the client’s needs, ranging from basic CD-rewriters to high capacity external hard drives with fully automated scheduled backing up software.

Networking Solution for Small and Large Business

The facts of small and large business networking solutions are more or less the same. Importance of effective network installation service and reliable network security & support services cannot be denied for any type of business, irrespective of its size and scale. Every organization needs networking solutions and employs onshore or offshore team for handling the networking issues from time to time. Server down, Connectivity issues, and akin are some of the usual network related issues that distract a business working day on an average. All such problems are of high importance and must be corrected on first priority basis. So there is always a need for a networking engineer team with in-depth knowledge of the networking concepts and fair grasp of the practical know how, so as to address the issues with optimum speed.

Hiring a team of such a competency is always very expensive and probably not a feasible option for the small businesses. To the rescue are organizations with experts in networking solutions, who customize the small and large business networking solutions to your exact requirements. The cost effectiveness and durability of the network installation service and network security and other support services becomes something not to worry about. There are some key points one must ask oneself, while searching for a networking solutions team, as and when you decide to hire Network security & support services.

1.Which geographical location should be preferred while hiring a networking solution? (Neighboring, provincial or state-wide)?
2.What demographics would suit your requirements (income specific, etc.)?
3.What should be the strength of the Networking solutions team?

It’s better to have the team seated within the organization, as thus they will be better able to tackle networking issues of connectivity or server issues. They will be able to give a better backup solution. Networking solution team also has the competency of establishing extensive network security. Network security is of high importance for any organization that has the network installed. There are various types to establish network security. This depends on the requirements and the profile of the organization.

Database Management Services

In the database management service, there exists a collection of interrelated files and a set of application programs to access and modify these files. The details of data storage, the way of storing data and its maintenance are safely hidden from the users. The database management services allow not only a single user, but it can be accessed by multiple users at the same time. This feature of multiple usages is allowed by almost every database management service provider.

A database management does not involve the problem of data redundancy or inconsistency. Its design is such that it provides the security mechanism to prevent unwanted users from accessing certain parts or whole of the database. For example, tellers in a bank see only that part of database that has information on customer accounts. They cannot access information about salaries of employees. It has many advantages over the file processing system, which stores the permanent records in various files. In this system the problem of redundancy prevails, as files and application programs are created by different programmers over a long period of time.

Besides keeping a tight control over data redundancy, efficient database management services also ensure the following:

Enforce user defined rules to ensure the integrity of data in table form.

Has a centralized data dictionary for the storage of information pertaining to data fields and data manipulation.

Database management ensures that data can be shared across all applications. It enforces data access authorization.

Database management service has an automatic, intelligent backup and recovery procedure of data.

A database management service also has its share of overheads. To begin with, its initial cost is very high, as it requires setting up of hardware, software and training, as well as, provision of security, concurrency control, and recovery and integrity functions.

Further on the down side, Database management service provides a generalized approach for defining and processing data. On the other hand, file processing system provides well defined database and applications that are simple and are not expected to change.

Fast transfer speed of the SD Secure Digital memory card

The memory cards are of many types and are used for many purposes. The SD memory cards are mostly used in cell phones, digital cameras and game consoles. In 1990s the PC card was among the 1st commercial “memory card”. Now the PC cards are used for modems as connection standard and for industrial applications. During that time period, other types of memory cards were introduced that were smaller in size than PC cards. These memory cards were Smart Media, miniature card and the Compact Flash cards.

In 2001, the CF (Compact Flash) and SM (Smart Media) cards were very popular for use in digital cameras. By the year 2005, the MMC and SD cards became more successful and they took over SM (Smart Media) cards. Nowadays, the modern personal computer systems have buit-in slots for the use of memory cards. The SD (Secure Digital) memory cards are lighter and smaller in size than the compact flash (CF) cards. The SD cards have interface of nine pin and data transfer bus of 4-bit. Initially the CF cards were cheaper than the SD cards, but that is not true nowadays. SD Secure digital are all solid state memory cards. There is also advanced form of the SD card called the SD High Capacity SDHC. The capacity of the SDHC cards reaches up to 32GB.

The SD cards were developed to avoid the illegal copying of music and for the “digital right scheme”. Secure Digital cards have the encryption hardware. The SD cards and the MMC are very much similar but the MMC does not have the “encryption hardware” along with some technical differences.

Sandisk introduced series of “extreme-IV” in the mid of 2006. These SD cards offer transfer speed of 40MB/second, double from the Sandisk “extreme-III” SD cards. The Sandisk extreme-IV has the similar architecture design and wide range like that of Sandisk “extreme-III” series. Lexar launched the “ultra direct memory access UDMA” cards in February 2007. These cards had the data capacities of 2 GB to 8 GB. The UDMA cards from Lexar have improved performance of about 125% as compared to the previous version Lexar 133x CF product line. The native writing speed of the extreme-III series is 20 MB/second.

The speed of extreme cards and the Sandisk ultra-II memory cards is the same. When the data is transferred to personal computer through optimized “card reader”, that is where the cards become the fastest. For instance, extreme-IV cards from Sandisk when connected to fast PC can deliver up to 40MB/second of transfer speed through the Sandisk card reader Firewire 800. But when it is used with card reader of generic USB 2.0, then the transfer speed lowers down to 7MB/second.

Therefore, if the user wants to get the ultimate speed and performance of the secure digital SD card, then he has to careful with the card reader he is using. The fast speed memory card will not be cost effective when the transfer speed from memory card to the personal computer is not important to the user. The user can download the fast speed 2 GB memory card to fast personal computer system with in less than a minute by using the “Firewire-800” memory card reader. On the other hand, slower USB 2.0 and memory card can take up to six minutes.

Guidelines to design an Ideal Datacenter

In literary meanings, a datacenter is a physical place used to store computer systems and associated components, such as telecommunications and storage systems that includes redundant or backup power supplies, redundant data communications connections, environmental controls (e.g., air conditioning, fire suppression) and security devices. It is very complicated job to design an ideal datacenter. Here, in this feature a guideline is given to design an idealistic datacenter.

Design factors

Beginning with perfect data center, the first thing to take care is the design of the datacenter should be perfect with every aspect like its height, area covered, strength etc. Ideal design of a datacenter should be flexible enough in terms of expansion and should be able to last for at least ten years. . The height of the datacenter room should be between 14-15 feet; 3 feet below raised floor rising up to 9.5 feet from the raised floor to false ceiling and 2 feet from false ceiling to shell. Dedicated space to store UPS and generator needs to be created adjacent to the core datacenter.

Power Supply

Planning for the power supply is another key vicinity that one should consider while designing the datacenter. A datacenter require power supply not only for the server and other nodes but, also for air-conditioning, networking equipment, security system, UPS etc. More so, make suitable arrangements in case of power cuts. A power logic management system can help you in this regard.

Redundant infrastructure

A datacenter must have some amount of built-in redundancy from server’s storage to power; everything should be made redundant. All this of course doubles the cost, so make sure this is planned out very carefully. Keep the most critical elements redundant.

The arrangement for Hot air exhaust

The equipments in the datacenter are supposed to produce a lot of heat, which can damage equipment and reduce overall performance. Hence, it's very important to keep your entire datacenter cool. A datacenter should be well ventilated to supply fresh air. This can be achieved by installing a dedicated cooling plant for your datacenter and arrangement for the hot air exhaust return paths control. Proper cooling of a datacenter leads to improved performance and lesser down time.

Fire prevention

A general saying says, “ Hope for the best, but prepared for the worst”. It is always advised to take a precautionary step to avoid any superfluous circumstances fire. Nobody can predict fire, as in when and how it can & will cause disasters. So you should install a full-fledged fire prevention system in the datacenter. This can be in the form of fire alarms, smoke and fire detectors. It is advised to use fireproof material to build the entire datacenter.

Physical security

Physical security is needed to safeguard the datacenter from any external attacks. A datacenter carries the critical business applications and data of an organization and hence I become an important job to secure datacenter. Door security techniques like Swap Card Access and Bio-Metric Authorization devices can help in this regard and as an add-on, you can put up motion detectors or a guard inside the main datacenter area to ensure security.

Reduce Energy Consumption

It is always advised to use equipments, which are supposed to save energy requirements in a datacenter. Use of multiple-core microprocessors can save energy as in m Multiple-core processors run at slower clock speeds and lower voltages than single-core chips but handle more work. Always look for features such as dynamic frequency and voltage scaling. As a general assumption, it is better to divide load on more than one server. It may consume little more power, but it will keep your equipment well and safe.

General guidelines for designing an Ideal Datacenter

· Keep it simple.

· Keep the design flexible for amendments

· Think modular while designing

· Label everything. Particularly cabling, it becomes easy to troubleshoot bad cables

· Plan ahead for future expansion

· Take weight consideration of Servers and storage equipment for datacenters

· Hope for the best, plan for the worst

Yen Rises, South Korean Won drops to two month low:
The yen climbed to 91.65 against the dollar as of 2 p.m. in Tokyo from 91.93 late in New York on Feb. 13
in forex trading. It advanced to 116.92 per euro from 118.37. Japan’s currency gained 1.2 percent to 59.63 versus Australia’s dollar and rose 1.1 percent to 47.50 against New Zealand’s dollar. The U.S. dollar gained to $1.2756 per euro from $1.2862 in New York last week, and climbed to 1.1668 Swiss francs from 1.1590. The British pound fell 1 percent to $1.4214 and weakened 0.2 percent to 89.75 pence per euro.

The yen snapped two days of losses against the dollar from the Friday session last week.

South Korea’s won shed 11 percent this year, the biggest drop among the 10 most-traded Asian currencies outside Japan, on concern that a deepening global economic slump will discourage investors from buying emerging-market assets. A forecast revealed the Korean economy will shrink 6 percent this year as the world recession takes a bigger toll on over-leveraged households and smaller companies than during the 1998 Asian crisis.

Geithner Pressed By G-7 to Push Ahead With Bank Bailout Plan:

Finance chiefs from the Group of Seven nations joined the chorus of U.S. investors and lawmakers pushing Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to move faster to fix the banking system. The G-7 repeated its traditional message that “excess volatility” and “disorderly movements” in exchange rates must be avoided. The group accounts for about two-thirds of the world economy composing of the U.S., Japan, Germany, U.K., Italy, Canada and France. The yen rose against the euro and the dollar after finance ministers from the Group of Seven nations said the “severe” global slump will persist for most of 2009 and Japan’s economy shrank by the most since 1974, spurring investors to sell riskier assets.

White House dampens stimulus expectations:

President Barack Obama’s aides warned Americans on Sunday not to expect instant miracles from the $787 billion economic stimulus bill he will sign this week, but said it would help eventually. “The acceleration in job loss probably means that this economy is going to get worse before it gets better,” he said. The kept up their criticism on the bill saying it is incredibly expensive. “It has hundreds of billions of dollars in projects which will not yield in jobs,” said John McCain, whom Obama defeated in last year’s presidential election

Forex secrets

Not long after I first became involved in Forex trading I began to have a series of insights. I noticed that other people did not appear to be aware of some of the things that somehow seemed obvious to me. The funny thing about Forex Secrets is that once you see them, you will wonder why they are not obvious to everyone. In the Forex Trading world people are attracted to this business primarily through the marketing efforts of the Forex brokers. And most of the training available is either directly or indirectly connected to the Forex broker industry. To put it more clearly, if the training is not directly through a broker it is likely that the training program is connected with an introducing broker. An introducing broker is a person or company that refers customers to a broker and receives compensation in the form of a percentage of the PIP spread that the broker collects on all the trader’s trades.

Now, when I first learned about Forex brokers I assumed that it would make business sense for the broker to be very concerned about the trader’s long term success since they seem to make their money from the PIP spread that is charged on each of the customers’ trades. Apparently, that was a naive assumption on my part. It didn’t take long to start hearing about how most of the retail Forex brokers in the U.S. actually keep the trades “in house” meaning that they do not really exist on the interbank market. Because it is a known principle that 90-95% of Forex traders fail and lose their accounts usually within 3 – 6 months, it makes business sense for brokers to just keep their accounts instead of being content with the PIP spread on the trades. If this is shocking or does not make sense just do some research on the subject and you will surely find plenty of information to further enlighten you.

So there are two things to consider here. One is that many Forex brokers may have a vested interest in the certain loss of the majority of traders. And the second is that Forex brokers have a vested interest in traders placing many trades on the short term time frames. Is it any wonder that almost all Forex trading training courses teach only how to trade on the extreme short term time frame?

So the first thing that should be obvious about Forex trading but still remains a “secret” is that in order to succeed you will want to do what the rest of the world is not doing.
